Hi to you both–always enjoy your e-mails but have a quick question for you—whenever I take your Maxi Multis, 9 a day, I tend to be constipated and hope you can shed a little light on this problem as I feel they are the best vitamins.

This question caused a bit of a stir here, since we consider Maxi Multi to be the very best multiple vitamin available anywhere and we know that it is carefully formulated to be perfect for those with allergies and sensitive digestive systems – here is Dr. Myatt’s response and advice:

Hi Beverly:

Nope, never heard of constipation from Maxi Multi’s in the 14 years I’ve been making it! (If anyone complains, they claim it causes diarrhea)!

But, try these three things:

1.) Be sure you are getting 64 ounces of pure water daily. (Dehydration is a common cause of constipation)

2.) Be sure you are getting Essential Fatty Acids daily, including Omega-3 (flax oil and/or fish oil) and Omega-6 (walnut oil, about 1 tsp. per day)

3.) Still think Maxi’s are causing constipation? Begin with 1 cap, 3 times per day. If no problem, move up by one capsule every 3 days until you find your “happy dose.” Hopefully, that will be the recommended 9 caps per day. Sometimes, moving up on the dose of a supplement more slowly helps the body adapt, although again, this applies more to loose bowels than to constipation.

If you’re still having trouble, please visit our bowel health page and take special note of how higher-dose vitamin C can help correct constipation plus offer a whole host of other health benefits.

Hope this does the trick for you! Please keep me posted.

In health,
Dr. Myatt
