Baby Carrot, Chlorine and More Urban Legend.

    By Dr. Myatt

Sheesh. Do people really believe everything they read, good and bad, on the internet?

I received this note from a patient:

    Subject: carrots

The FDA loves you and me so much!

    Did you know?

The following is information from a farmer who grows and packages carrots for IGA, METRO, LOBLAWS, etc

The small cocktail (baby) carrots you buy in small plastic bags are made using the larger crooked or deformed carrots which are put through a machine which cuts and shapes them into cocktail carrots – most people probably know this already.

What you may not know and should know is the following:

Once the carrots are cut and shaped into cocktail carrots they are dipped in a solution of water and chlorine in order to preserve them (this is the same chlorine used in your pool). [Dr. Myatt’s NOTE: In all due fairness, it’s also the same chlorine used in your municipal water purification. You’re getting chlorine when you drink tap water and shower, not just when you eat baby carrots!]
Since they do not have their skin or natural protective covering, they give them a higher dose of chlorine.

You will notice that once you keep these carrots in your refrigerator for a few days, a white covering will form on the carrots. This is the chlorine which resurfaces. At what cost do we put our health at risk to have esthetically pleasing vegetables?

Chlorine is a very well-known carcinogen, which causes Cancer. [Dr. Myatt’s Note: Chlorine by itself is not a known carcinogen. It becomes a carcinogen when it combines with certain organic material. Your municipal tap water is a bigger risk than "baby" carrots.]

I thought this was worth passing on. Pass it on to as many people as possible in hopes of informing them where these carrots come from and how they are processed.

I used to buy those baby carrots for vegetable dips. I know that I will never buy them again!!!!

The patient wrote: "Is anything safe to eat?"

My answer: yes, but I think most people would do well to stop reading unsolicited junk emails from non-medical sources. There’s a lot of "junk information" on the ‘net, even more than there is junk food in the grocery store!

Baby carrots are often larger carrots that were too misshapen to sell and have been whittled down. Their chlorine content is no bigger than any other pre-washed vegetables in the store. The chlorine from your tap water, especially if you bathe in it, poses a far bigger risk due to concentration and combination with organic products. (I’m putting the finishing touches on a water quality article for an upcoming HealthBeat).

Nurse Mark Takes Oath of US Citizenship (Yeah!)

Have a FREE American Flag on US (all puns intended…)

Mark Ziemann, R.N., of Snowflake, Arizona, took the oath of United States Citizenship on Friday June 19th, 2009.

Nurse Mark is all smiles as he displays his Certificate of US Naturalization. Mr. Ziemann, known to his patients as "Nurse Mark," has lived in the United States since 2001. He originally came here from his birthplace of Canada on a trade NAFTA visa to serve as a nurse at the Gila Bend Power Plant during its construction.

During this time he met, fell in love with and married Snowflake resident Dr. Dana Myatt. Nurse Mark has resided in Snowflake since their marriage in 2003 and together they own and operate Dr. Myatt’s Wellness Club, a nationwide nutritional and herbal supplement company and holistic health consultation service.

"Six grueling years of jumping through flaming hoops" is how Dr. Myatt describes their US naturalization process. But in the end, both agree that the privilege of United  States citizenship was well worth the effort.

At the ceremony, which took place at the Sandra Day O’Connor Federal Courthouse in Phoenix, Mr. Ziemann was asked to offer his thoughts to fellow immigrants. He told the group:

"Your Honor, ladies and gentlemen and my fellow American citizens—

This is for me, as it is for you, the proud culmination of a long journey. You and I are now a part of ‘We The People’!

The United States gives us many right and freedoms unknown in other places in the world, but Citizenship also carries responsibilities. I gladly accept these responsibilities, as do you. I look forward to serving my new country in any way I can.

I ask that we remember the words of President John Fitzgerald Kennedy – words that I  remember hearing as a child -  ‘Ask not what your Country can do for you. Ask what you can do for your County.’

I look forward to working, serving, voting and caring with every one of you as we move forward together in our new role as United States Citizens.

Together, we will help keep The United states of America strong and free. Thank you."

Dr. Myatt notes that "Nurse Mark is more an American patriot in his heart and mind than many who were born here. He understands the elegance of the US Constitution and the government it outlines. It was a good call on the part of the US government to approve his citizenship."

"Despite the challenges the US currently faces, we both still believe that this is the best country on earth to be living in. I am thrilled that my husband can now share in the American democratic process with me." God Bless America!

  • MATERIAL SAFETY DATA SHEETS (MSDS) – A Most Useful Tool For Researchers

Many of our readers may be familiar with the ubiquitous MSDS documents that define the makeup, uses, and hazards of virtually anything you might imagine. These are often very useful as they can provide surprising information about substances. We frequently refer to these documents here at The Wellness Club when we are conducting our research.

This set of MSDS documents found it’s way into our email inboxes recently, and we thought it might be useful to pass the information along.

  • Using These Drugs For Arthritis? Beware!

    By Nurse Mark

Dr. Myatt is very successful in her treatment of patients with rheumatoid arthritis – and she stays on the cutting edge when it comes to news about drugs and therapies for this disease that conventional medicine finds so challenging. Many of her patients come to her debilitated by conventional, poorly-proven, and toxic drug therapies. Such was the case with one patient to whom she sent the following information. Fortunately, as a result of Dr. Myatt’s treatment this fellow is no longer using the Humira drug that the FDA has been forced to warn doctors about.

    May 29, 2009

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued a reminder on the risk for serious fungal infections associated with all tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha) inhibitors, including golimumab (Simponi, Centocor Ortho-Biotech Inc).

Golimumab is a new TNF-alpha blocker approved by the FDA for the treatment of adult patients with moderate to severe rheumatoid arthritis.

The reminder was issued because " histoplasmosis and other invasive fungal infections are not consistently recognized in patients taking TNF- blockers including Cimzia (certolizumab pegol), Enbrel (etanercept), Humira (adalimumab), and Remicade (infliximab)."

This lack of recognition "has resulted in delays in appropriate antifungal treatment, sometimes even resulting in death," according to an alert sent today by MedWatch, the FDA’s safety information and adverse event reporting program.

As previously reported by Medscape Medical News , the FDA ordered makers of TNF-alpha inhibitors to strengthen warnings regarding the risk for histoplasmosis and other invasive fungal infections on September 4, 2008.

Yikes! What manner of poisons are we being fed in the Big Pharma quest for profit? How do they get away with this sort of thing?!?

  • Prostate Cancer – A Death Sentence?

    By Nurse Mark

Conventional medicine and Big Pharma have people well-trained: a diagnosis of "Cancer" is accompanied with the caution that a reprieve from this death sentence can only be obtained through the immediate application of toxic chemotherapy, mutilating surgery, or destructive radiation – what we know ’round here as "Cut, Burn, and Poison." Even those who feel that there might just be natural approaches to dealing with cancer often become panicked and begin a frantic quest to "do something – before it’s too late!"

The note that follows is representative of many that we receive here – this person wants to do something for his father, and wants to do it right away.

DEAR DR. MY FATHER JUST FOUND OUT HE HAS PROSTATE CANCER DO YOU THINK I (should) JUST ORDER 3 BOTTLES OF THE PSA FOR HIM.
I REALLY THINK IT WOULD HELP HIM A LOT. COULD I MAKE AN ORDER THROUGH YOUR WEBSITE?

Poor Duwaine! I can feel his concern – after all, I’ve been there: my Dad was given the same diagnosis several years ago. Fortunately, I was familiar with the answer that Dr. Myatt gives to questions like this:

    Hi Duwaine:

Wow… WAY too many "unknowns" for me to make a statement about whether or not your dad would benefit from Prostate Support, but yes, you can order it through our website.

    Here’s the scoop.

Depending on your Dad’s age, and what stage of cancer he has, he may not require ANY treatment. My Dad just turned 91 and he’s had prostate cancer for about 15 years. Age of patient, stage of cancer, aggressiveness of the cancer all make a difference about what, if anything, should be done.

The lecture notes from medical conferences I’ve presented at, on this very topic, will give you more specific guidance about what natural therapies may be applicable. If you want specific information about your Dad, then I’ll need to know more about his case. I am available for Brief Phone Consultations if there are additional questions I can answer for you  or full Holistic Telephone Consultations for those who want a complete work-up.

Most older men don’t die of prostate cancer, they die with prostate cancer. This means that attention to overall health is also most important.

let me know how it goes!

    In Health,
    Dr. Myatt
